According to the Editors at Money magazine, the Florida city of Port Charlotte is the best place to retire to in the country.
The ranking is not surprising when you consider Port Charlotte’s central location here in Southwest Florida. It is just adjacent to Punta Gorda, 50 miles south of Sarasota and 40 miles north of the Ft. Myers and Naples areas. In addition, the city is nestled right on Charlotte harbor, which offers hundreds of miles of cruising waters and protected shorelines for both boating and fishing enthusiasts alike. Knowing the area well, we’re surprised it didn’t make their list for the Best Places for a Long Life.
With the population in Florida expected to double within in the next 15 years and the lack of a Florida state tax on income (including interest and dividend income); it only makes it even more of a sweet deal if you’re considering making the Port Charlotte area your new home.

I was in Panama just after AARP rated Panama as one of the best places for Americans to retire and witnessed a real estate boom shortly thereafter. I now operate a real estate company in Medellin, Colombia and see similar prospects here. No international destination will ever take the place of a traditional retirement destination like south Florida, especially with the current prices. Good post!

It’s no big surprise that Florida is becoming a primary destination for retirees.
My parents are moving to Las Vegas for very similar reasons that Florida is popular.
You would think more states would model this type of motivate people to our states.
