Nature enthusiasts, paddlers, hikers, bird watchers and sightseers now will have a wonderful new opportunity to explore the Everglades via the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge just east and south of Naples.
Starting today, a new trailhead and boardwalk at the 35,000 acre park will provide visitors access to hiking trails and a canoe and kayak launch allowing them to explore all the splendor the Ten Thousand Islands area has to offer. Young and old alike will have the opportunity to see sunning alligators, great blue herons, manatees, and all the beauty that Mother Nature provides at this easy to access nature preserve. Fishermen and hunters (with permits) will also be welcomed in the mangrove filled back country marsh.
According to refuge managers, the Grand Opening will be held on October 10 from 7AM to 1PM. Guided hiking and kayaking tours will be provided along with exhibits and demonstrations by the park staff. For more information, visit the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Website.

It’s nice that it’s open up to the public now, but you won’t catch me anywhere near gator land! Great picture~

Gators won’t bother you for the most part, except maybe the big fellas during mating season.
Now, if you wanna talk about salt water croc’s, well that’s a whole other ballgame!
That is a very pretty picture…
Gators do bother me though. I dont know if I could go there.
Actually, they are really cool to watch…
From a distance!
Seems to me like you would need lots of bug repellent out in that place.
We call it Swamp Spray down here. It makes the other repellants pale in comparison. It’s thick, oily and smells really bad.
And, if you go in early summer when the fresh water misquotes hatch, you better be wearing web clothing from head to toe. Those suckers will carry you away!
